Maximum Deflection Calculator

Check whether a pipe can physically pass through a hole cutout at an angle.

What it does

While standard design principles call for pipes to enter a structure at a perpendicular angle, it is sometimes necessary to enter a structure at angles other than 90° to the wall.

The maximum deflection angle determines whether the pipe can physically be placed through the hole cutout. This is only a geometric check and does not indicate that a quality installation seal can be obtained.

What you need

  1. Wall thickness of the structure
  2. Outside diameter of the pipe
  3. Diameter of the hole cutout (always larger than the pipe OD)

Enter the data into the calculator and click Calculate.

If the pipe cannot fit geometrically, increase the hole cutout diameter and recalculate.
